Lost Episode #25
We flew from Tunis, Tunisia to Cairo, Egypt on Tunis Air for $282.83. TIP: When you arrive, you’ll need some cash to pay for your on-arrival visa. We didn’t have any, so we used our card, but it was run as a cash advance, which resulted in a bank fee. So go prepared!
After we got our visa, then some cash from an ATM (which was not available by where you get your visa), we got an $8.01 Uber ride from the airport to our hotel by the pyramids of Giza. It was about an hour drive, so it’s crazy that it was that cheap!
Our hotel (Pyramids View Inn) had a fantastic roof-top view of the pyramids only cost $83.94 for two nights.
We don’t recommend visiting the Coptic part of Cairo (based on our experience), and do recommend hiring a good, trustworthy driver that is happy with his rate. We had a bad experience with our driver unfortunately, but the kindness and hospitality of the construction workers at the hotel who invited us to join them for dinner and the retired police officer who drove us back to the airport showed us the better side of Egyptian hospitality. So we definitely need to go back and give Egypt a second chance.
