Welcome to the Shire
We arrived at Hobbiton early and were able to score spots on the first tour of the day (9am) so no groups were in front of us! And there are 40-50 people per group, so that’s a big deal. It was fantastic!
Fun Fact: Hobbiton is the 2nd most popular attraction in New Zealand, second only to Milford Sound. Hobbiton is also the only outdoor, organic movie set in the entire world. Another fun fact: it took 2 years to build the set, and they completed all the filming in 12 days – crazy!
After walking around several hobbit holes, we ended up at the Green Dragon and enjoyed a specially made drink (Peter got the amber and Lisa got the apple), then wrapped up and ended back at the visitor center. In all, the tour took about 2 hours.
